Sophie Blumberg
Sophie Blumberg is a creative producer, deviser, and dramaturg. She is fascinated by human behavior, by the things that make cultures and individuals distinct, and by the connections that transcend cultural boundaries. She specializes in the development and creation of new work that actively engages in dialogue with audience experience. Her producing work spans multiple sectors of the entertainment industry, including live performance, themed entertainment, and television.
Sophie’s work as a producer and new play developer as been seen with Octopus Theatricals, the International Festival of Arts and Ideas, the Tribeca Festival, the Orchard Project, CalArts Center for New Performance, TeatrStudio (Warsaw, Poland), Edinburgh Fringe Festival (2018), REDCAT, The Civilians, BAM Next Wave Festival, Goodman Theatre, Actors Theatre of Louisville, Cherry Lane Theatre, The Moving Company, Pig Iron, The Hypocrites, Victory Gardens Theatre, Chicago Dramatists, Chicago Writers Bloc, First Floor Theater, and Cold Basement Dramatics, where she served as Co-Artistic Director.
Sophie is a founder and ensemble member with devised theatre projects Bad Boy Sad Boy, The Electric Brain, and an alumna of both the Walt Disney Imagineering CalArts Educational Initiative and the Directing Internship at Actors Theatre of Louisville in 2014-2015. She received a 2014 Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs In The Works Grant for The Half-Life of Memory (Cold Basement Dramatics), a 2017 Drama League First Stage Artist Residency for Trixie the Giant, and was a 2017-2018 Manhattan Theatre Club Directing Fellow. From 2017 - 2019, she served as the Associate Producer of the CalArts Center for New Performance.
She is currently an Associate Producer with Octopus Theatricals, a Producer for the online resource Producer Hub, and a Creative Executive with Littleton Road Productions. She also serves as a member of the Creative and Independent Producer Alliance (CIPA) Programs Committee, as well as CIPA’s Emerging Producer Fellowship Committee.
